Fall For These Local Maryland Apple Picking Spots!

September 23, 2020

Apple picking is a timeless fall activity that’s perfect for outdoor social distancing! It’s a great way to spend some time in nature and enjoy that early fall breeze. There are lots of great places to go apple picking not too far from your home here at 1305 Dock Street! We’ve rounded up a list with the in-cider scoop on locations that are sure to be a-peel-ing!

There’s nothing quite like biting into an apple that’s crisp, juicy, sweet, and delicious! The humble apple may seem like a simple fruit, but they’re super versatile. With all the extra apples you’ll have from a visit to the orchard, you can whip up a classic apple pie, serve sliced with peanut butter at snacktime, or even grill them for a unique dinner side.

Local Apple Orchards and Farms

Larriland Farm in western Howard County is a great spot for apple picking and fun fall activities! Their harvest page is updated daily with their rotating offerings, including a variety of apples, fresh-cut flowers, pumpkins and more! Pick-your-own apples are sold by the container, rather than weight, to limit contact between visitors and staff. They also have hayrides around the farm, currently operating at 75% capacity for better social distancing (but still 100% fun!).

Another of our “picks” is Weber’s Cider Mill Farm in Parkville, MD. Did you know, their cider is the oldest mill in continuous use in the state? In order to ensure visitor’s safety, Weber’s is currently offering picking by appointment only. Just place your order online for the amount of apples you plan to purchase ahead of time, then come to the farm to pick your fruit! Be sure to check their website to select your timeslot and view availability of each apple variety.

For over 100 years, Baugher’s Orchards and Farm, located in Westminster, MD, has been a fall staple for Maryland residents. After picking apples at the pick-your-own orchard, you’ll definitely want to stop by the Baugher’s bakery and fruit market as well for some mouth-watering pastries, pies, jams and more. They have refreshing, fresh-pressed cider, too!

Located in Harford County, Lohr’s Orchard is another great place to start your new apple picking tradition! This family-owned orchard has been growing apples since 1928. They have pick-you-own apples from 9am-1:30pm every Saturday and Sunday in September at their Snake Lane location, as well as a market stand on Route 22 for a quick stock-up!

Heyser Farms is open from 9am to 6pm everyday Monday through Saturday and closed Sunday. They offer fresh, seasonal produce year-round, but apples take the spotlight in the fall! They also have homemade doughnuts and cider available for purchase, so you can get your apple fix in any form. They carry over 30 varieties of apples, so if you have a particular favorite, odds are you can get it at Heyser!

Fall Happy Hour Kits
To help you celebrate the first week of fall, we will be delivering happy hour kits on Friday, September 25th by request. They will be apple cider themed and sure to be a perfect pairing with your orchard-fresh apples.
