Are you taking advantage of the warmer weather recently? If you aren’t, you’ve got no excuse — there’s lots of outdoor activities to do right here in Baltimore. Here are just a few.
Go For a Hike
Get in the car and head west to Patapsco Valley State Park for a hike. There are several trails you can take through the park, many of which will pass by ruins and waterfalls. The trails range from easy nature walks to full-day treks for experienced hikers. The Patapsco River also provides the opportunity to go kayaking, canoeing or fishing.
Or just stay right here in Baltimore, where we have 46,000 acres of parkland. The city’s website has more information on how you can take full advantage of city parks this summer. Groups of runners and bikers are a common sight, so make some friends and stay active together!
Ride a Bike
Whether you ride a bike for pleasure, exercise or simply for transportation, you’ll agree that biking is the most fun when it’s nice out. Take advantage of it! Ride your bike to work, the park, the harbor or just take a spin around the block.
If you don’t have your own bike, there are organized rides in Druid Park on Wednesday nights. All you need is an ID and a suggested $5 donation and you can borrow a bike for the ride. Riders do the same thing at Lake Montebello on Thursday nights and Saturday mornings.
The city has the details on those rides. Have fun, always remember to bike safely and wear a helmet.
Take a Relaxing Cruise in the Bay
Baltimore has a number of boat companies that offer rides around Chesapeake Bay. You can see Fort McHenry and other important sights from a vantage point you won’t often get often, and your tour guide is sure to fill you in on historical tidbits you’ll find interesting. A boat cruise is a family-friendly way to spend a nice day outside.
If you’re looking to add a little thrill to your tour, you could always take it on a speedboat.
Be a Pirate For a Day
If a regular tour doesn’t suit your fancy, then plunder the high seas with Urban Pirates, a pirate-themed boat ride. Adults and kids alike dress as pirates for the ride aboard the ship Fearless to sing, dance and blast water cannons.
For those looking to leave the kids at home, Urban Pirates offers a similar ride on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights for those 21 and up. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own alcoholic beverages to enjoy aboard the ship.
Baltimore’s harbor is a great place to be not only in the summer, but year-round. 1305 Dock Street is a brand new apartment community on the harbor within walking distance of all Baltimore’s waterfront has to offer. Learn more about what our upscale community has to offer today.
