Baltimore’s harbor is a great place to be any time of the year, thanks to its wealth of restaurants, shops and performance venues. This summer is shaping up to be a particularly fun one, with a festival line-up that will make Baltimore the place to be for food, drink and culture. Here’s your guide to summer festivals in Baltimore.
Lithuanian Folk Dance Festival, July 1-3
Did you know that Lithuania is one of the most common countries that foreign-born Baltimore residents hail from? If you didn’t, it’s time for a cultural brush-up this summer, when Baltimore goes Baltic and hosts the Lithuanian Folk Dance Festival for the first time.
The event will culminate with more than 1,800 choreographed, costumed dancers performing traditional Lithuanian dances at the Royal Farms Arena.
African American Festival, July 2-3
The history of Baltimore’s African American community is as old as the city itself. This year’s African American festival includes themed pavilions that will focus on everything from demonstrations of beauty products to an event with Baltimore Police intended to bolster community-police relations. Among the hosts is actress Vivica A. Fox.
Baltimore Pride, July 19-25
Baltimore’s LGBTQ community and its supporters will rally in July for the city’s 41st Pride Festival. What began as a gathering of a few dozen activists has now become an annual event that brings 30,000 people onto Baltimore streets for a weeklong celebration.
Moonrise Festival, Aug. 6-7
If you’re looking to get your dance on, the Pimlico Race Course will host Baltimore’s biggest EDM festival in August. The lineup includes some of the biggest acts in the genre, like Tiesto and Bassnectar.
Baltimore Seafood Festival, Sept. 17
The city’s great seafood scene is front and center at this festival at the tail end of summer. More than a dozen reputable Baltimore restaurants will set up in Canton Waterfront Park to offer attendees a taste of their best stuff.
Looking to step up your own seafood cooking game? Check out the cooking demonstrations. There will also be live music.
The festival is expected to sell out, so get your ticket soon.
